Inside Tren de Aragua: The violent gang running riot across America

A new threat has recently emerged on the streets of major American cities.

The Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, almost mythical in its influence and ruthlessness, currently terrorizes Americans in cities such as Dallas, New York and Aurora, Colorado.

The Tren de Aragua has brought the horrors of one of the world's most dysfunctional states to the so-called superpower of the North.

But the real horror of Tren de Aragua lies not just in its current criminal activities, but in its origins.

The beginning of prison

The Tren de Aragua (Spanish for “Aragua Train”) was formed in Tocorón Prison in the Aragua region of Venezuela, and may have taken its name from the local railroad workers' union.

Like many of the prison gangs, Tren de Aragua was born out of a need for self-preservation. Over time, the gang's influence grew, using its prison connections to gain power and form a more structured internal hierarchy. A series of violent clashes with rival gangs ensured Tren de Aragua's dominance and prepared the foundations for its future criminal empire.

The thirst for power, blood and territory intensified.

As Tren de Aragua consolidated its hold within Venezuela's prison system, its leaders began strategizing to expand their reach even further. They formed alliances with other criminal organizations and corrupt officials to safely expand their operations.

Initially involved in extortion and local drug distribution, the gang's activities quickly expanded to other industries and countries, establishing bases in Colombia, Brazil and Bolivia. This new international influence has led the gang to diversify into human trafficking and arms smuggling, constantly adapting its tactics to evade law enforcement and consolidate its control over new territories.

Crossing borders

By the mid-2010s, Tren de Aragua had evolved from a local threat into a feared international crime organization, with operations extending beyond South America to Central America and the Caribbean. The gang's operations became increasingly sophisticated, incorporating targeted assassinations and establishing a large-scale drug production and distribution network spanning multiple countries.

This phenomenal growth has been accompanied by increased violence and intimidation, ruthlessly deployed to advance the gangs' profits.

Their ability to move resources and personnel across borders with relative ease has enabled them to gain control over successive local criminal markets, giving Venezuelan gangs an influence never before achieved.

This influence eventually reached the United States, where today the gang appears to operate with impunity.

In effect, Venezuelan migrants Florida and other states Refugees who fled their home countries are witnessing the very crimes they fought so hard to escape. The Tren de Aragua incident has brought the horrors of one of the world's most dysfunctional states to the so-called superpower of the north.

A time of choice

As America approaches what may be one of the most critical elections since the founding of our nation, the safety and security of every American is on the ballot. The relentless rise of gangs like Tren de Aragua and MS-13 underscores that national security is not just a political slogan, but an essential duty of government and a fundamental right of every law-abiding citizen.

This November, voters concerned about this burgeoning imported crime must decide which political party has the resolve and ability to tackle these existential threats.

The choice is clear: either you support those who care about stricter border security and protecting American lives, or you support those who downplay and ignore those concerns. Only one party has demonstrated the resolve and readiness to confront this worsening crisis, and it is not the party of Kamala Harris.
