Inside Tyler Robinson's family: Details about the parents of Charlie Kirk's alleged attacker

Suspect Identified in Assassination of Political Activist Charlie Kirk

Authorities have named Tyler Robinson, 22, as the sole suspect in the assassination of Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA.

Robinson allegedly shot Kirk while he was engaged in conversation with a student during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Reports suggest that Robinson fired from a rooftop approximately 200 yards away, using a bolt-action rifle that struck Kirk fatally in the neck.

Robinson was apprehended on September 12. Following the incident, a family friend recognized him in surveillance footage and contacted the sheriff’s office after Robinson’s father, Matt Robinson, alerted them.

While Robinson previously registered to vote without a party affiliation, he did not participate in the last two elections. Utah Governor Spencer Cox mentioned in a press conference that the suspect’s family indicated a shift toward political motivations in recent years.

The governor also noted that the family spoke of a conversation surrounding Kirk’s upcoming talk at the university, questioning some of Kirk’s views during that time.

The night prior to Robinson’s arrest, his father contacted a family acquaintance, expressing concerns about his son’s involvement in the shooting, according to Governor Cox.

Originally from Washington, Utah, Robinson had received a scholarship to Utah State University but dropped out after just one semester. Video footage reportedly captures him accepting the scholarship while being documented by his mother.

Robinson’s parents, Matt and Amber Jones Robinson, reside in a six-bedroom home valued around $634,400. Amber has shared moments of their family life on Facebook, including visits to the University of Utah in 2021.

“It was great to have someone with this boy at once,” she wrote. “Plus Aggy Ice Cream! I didn’t know that was the case, but it’s great!”

Family photos depict a middle-class upbringing, showcasing moments with Tyler, his mother, and his younger siblings.

While Matt Robinson has been misreported as a veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, the office clarified that this information is incorrect.

“Tyler Robinson was arrested last night in Washington County,” officials stated, emphasizing that he has no ties to local law enforcement. “We appreciate the cooperation of local and federal agencies in this investigation.”

Robinson has two younger brothers, Austin and Logan, who appear to be a few years his junior, as noted in a Facebook post by Amber celebrating the start of school.
