She pointed out that a viewer rewatch doesn’t necessarily mean much—it could just be someone quickly swiping through.

The feature even tracks the exact time someone first views a story, updating if they come back for a second look.

Critics argue that such features allow companies to profit at the expense of users’ mental well-being. One TikToker remarked on the distress this could cause, noting that non-subscribers remain oblivious to who uses Instagram Plus, meaning they won’t understand why certain users appear at the top of their viewer list, which could lead to unnecessary anxiety.

There are worries that these paid features represent the beginning of a trend, with skeptics theorizing that Meta could one day charge for overall access across its platforms.
