Intense Fight Against Immigration Fraud Alerts Hundreds of Foreigners in Blue City

Federal immigration authorities have alerted hundreds of foreign nationals after launching a significant crackdown on immigration fraud in Minnesota.

The Trump administration’s initiative, named Operation Twin Shield, represents a strategic effort aimed at suspected immigration fraudsters in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. This was announced recently by the U.S. Office of Citizenship (USCIS). The operations, carried out in collaboration with various federal agencies, have brought many foreigners under scrutiny.

The initiative, which ran from September 19 to 28, involved agents visiting numerous foreigners engaged in marriage and other immigration-related schemes. They conducted interviews, identifying potential fraud cases that raised federal concerns.

“USCIS is committed to combating immigration fraud. We will actively pursue those undermining our immigration system,” said USCIS Director Joe Edrow in an official statement. He added that, with assistance from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the FBI, the operation yielded significant results, holding several individuals accountable.

Edrow noted, “Immigration fraud jeopardizes our legal immigration system and poses risks to public safety.” He emphasized that under the Trump administration, they are committed to investigating thoroughly.

USCIS reported conducting over 900 interviews during this operation, which included site visits to cases believed to involve fraudulent activities. They identified fraud or potential public safety issues in about 275 cases, roughly 44% of those reviewed. Consequently, the agency issued notifications for several immigrants, leading to two arrests.

Some specific cases highlighted include a Kenyan man allegedly using a fabricated death certificate to claim the end of a marriage while residing in Minneapolis. Another case involved an individual tied to a suspect terrorist, found to be engaging in marriage fraud.

During a press briefing, Edrow described the findings as alarming, citing instances of blatant marriage fraud, misuse of work visas, and improperly documented claims.

He also pointed out inconsistencies within a Biden-era program designed for Ukrainian arrivals, where there were instances of multiple sponsorships submitted improperly.

Edrow assured that similar operations will continue across the U.S. as they aim to address what he termed the Biden administration’s disregard for such issues. He emphasized the importance of Operation Twin Shield in enforcing immigration laws nationwide.

This operation aligns with President Trump’s executive order aimed at safeguarding the U.S. from various national security threats. USCIS has shifted towards a more enforcement-heavy approach under his administration.

Earlier this month, the agency reminded the public that immigrants sponsoring others for government assistance will bear financial responsibility. USCIS indicates it will scrutinize green card applicants more closely, especially those utilizing welfare services. They recently stated they would also consider the positive contributions of applicants during the citizenship process.
