Intense Kern River rescue following woman taken downstream

Rescuers were captured on video executing a dramatic rescue of a woman who had fallen into the rapidly flowing waters of the Kern River, located near the Sierra Nevada mountains in southern California.

The footage displayed the woman struggling against the current as she was pulled downstream. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit was dispatched to assist.

She had been located at the base of a steep cliff beneath a rocky ledge, hanging onto the bottom of the rock, partially submerged in frigid water.

In the video, she was seen desperately clinging to a rock until rescuers managed to throw her a life jacket. They subsequently tossed her a flotation device attached to a rope, which allowed them to safely pull her from the river.

Once she was rescued, the woman was handed over to emergency medical personnel for examination.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning that the Kern River poses serious dangers, even to seasoned swimmers. They emphasized that people can quickly feel overwhelmed due to strong currents, low water temperatures, and the risk of submersion.

Authorities recommend that individuals always wear a life jacket when near or in rivers.
