Inter and Arsenal have faced each other on two previous occasions. The away team has won comfortably both times, Thierry Henry missing a penalty at Highbury as the Italians won 3-0 in September 2003, then scoring twice in a 5-1 rout of the Nerazzurri at San Siro a couple of months later. So in that sense history favours Mikel Arteta’s side tonight. But more recent history does not: Inter have won seven of their last eight matches in all competitions, and have only tasted defeat this season in the Milan derby back in September, while the Gunners have only taken one Premier League point from the latest nine available, and looked distinctly uncertain when hosting Shakhtar in their last Champions League fixture. So in that sense history doesn’t augur so well … but Martin Ødegaard could return from injury, which would give out-of-sorts Arsenal a huge boost ahead of this tricky but tantalising tie against the Italian champions. Kick-off at San Siro is 8pm GMT. It’s on!

Mikel Arteta was asked by TNT Sports whether captain Martin Odegaard will feature tonight. “Let's see…he's only finished one session…he's bringing a different kind of energy…if he wants to play we need to use him so the game is Let's see how it develops…His character and character…It's very important that we start getting him back.''…He's already played with Declan Rice in other positions this season, so he adapts. We will continue… Thomas Partey and Mikel Merino are both talented and physical… Mikel is a real threat in the box… Thomas can break up the game and progress the ball very well… for us Two very important players… we need big players… it's a very symbolic place to play against a great team… we have to play a very big game… we are ready for it. I’ve done it… It’s always a big boost to win on a big stage like this.”

pennant watch. Both clubs operate plain and simple with a no-frills approach, and are neither established clubs with a penchant for baroque flashiness. Metal rails were favored by Arsenal, giving them even more power over Intel's simple code-based suspension system, but the two-tone background trumps plain white throughout the day, giving the hosts a close and classic contest. I took the lead.

Arsenal made one change to their starting XI in preparation for an unremarkable 1-0 defeat at Newcastle on Saturday lunchtime. Declan Rice is injured and will not be with the squad in hopes of playing against Chelsea at the weekend. Ben White joins the side. As expected, Martin Odegaard returns after a long injury absence and sits on the bench.

In contrast, hosts Inter are well rested. Coach Simone Inzaghi brought back five missing players in Sunday's 1-0 win over Venice. Hakan Calhanoglu, Davide Frattesi, Mehdi Taremi, Matteo Darmian and Jan Bisek return to the starting XI, while Nicolo Barella, Markus Thuram, Alessandro Bastoni, Federico Dimarco and former Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan join the starting XI. I went down to the bench.

Update date and time

preamble

Inter and Arsenal have played each other twice in the past. The away team won comfortably on both occasions, with Thierry Henry missing a penalty in Italy's 3-0 win over Highbury in September 2003, and a 5-1 win against the Nerazzurri at San Siro a few months later. He scored 2 points. In that sense, history favors Mikel Arteta's side tonight. But more recent history says otherwise. Inter have won seven of their last eight games in all competitions, with their only defeat this season coming in the Milan derby in September, while the Gunners have won a point from their last nine available Premier League games. I only got 1. , and looked visibly anxious in their final Champions League game against Shakhtar. So that History doesn't bode too well… but Martin Odegaard could return from injury, giving an out-of-form Arsenal a big boost heading into this tricky but fascinating draw with the Italian champions. will give. Kick-off at San Siro is 8pm Japan time. It's on!
