Ja Morant’s Future in Memphis Looks Uncertain
It seems Ja Morant may be nearing the end of his time with the Memphis Grizzlies, as there’s a growing sense of dissatisfaction on his part. Several NBA teams, notably the Timberwolves and Kings, are reportedly keeping an eye on the situation.
Interestingly, while the Kings haven’t faced the Grizzlies yet this season, there’s speculation they could be the frontrunners to acquire Morant if the circumstances align favorably before the NBA trade deadline on February 5. Sources indicate that the Kings are actively considering their options.
On the other hand, the Rockets, who are currently in need of a point guard, seem to be steering clear of Morant. According to a team source, they’re unlikely to target him, which is, well, a bit surprising, given his talent.
Morant’s frustrations have become particularly evident in recent interactions with the media. After a game against the Lakers, he was suspended for a game following comments urging reporters to “ask the coaching staff” about his struggles. When he returned to the court, he didn’t portray a sense of harmony with the team. His response when asked if he enjoys playing? Simply “no.” Yet, when probed about how improvements could be made, he was vague: “Let’s see,” he said.
Despite the tension, there’s no denying Morant’s skill. During the 2021-22 season, he delivered a career-high average of 27.4 points per game with impressive shooting stats. Currently, under a five-year contract worth $197 million that lasts until the 2027-28 season, many are left wondering how this saga will unfold.
This season, he’s averaging around 20.4 points per game. However, Morant’s journey has been marred by off-court controversy, facing two suspensions related to social media posts and firearms. It’s been quite a rollercoaster, and as the trade deadline approaches, speculation about his future will likely only intensify.
