An international jewelry thief wanted by Interpol for theft in South Korea has reportedly been released into the United States after arriving at the southern border near San Diego, California, last year. He is currently under arrest in Nassau County, New York, on suspicion of stealing more than $300,000 worth of jewelry from Tiffany & Co. and Cartier.
Yaorong Wang, 49, first arrived in the United States last December via the southern border near San Diego. according to To Long Island News 12. After applying for asylum, Wang was released into the interior of the United States.
Wang was given an Interpol Red Notice in September 2018 when he arrived at the border after allegedly stealing $332,000 worth of jewelry in Seoul, South Korea. Red Notice alerts law enforcement agencies around the world about various wanted fugitives on the run.
Wang eventually headed to New York City, where he appeared on March 4th. entered I went to the Tiffany store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan and inquired about some jewelry.
At one point, Wang was allowed to keep a diamond ring worth about $255,000. Wang allegedly exchanged the ring for a fake one, returned the fake ring to a Tiffany employee, and left the store without buying anything.
Tiffany did not realize the ring had been stolen until March 11th.
Then, on March 12, Wang entered the Cartier store at 20 Hudson Yards in Manhattan. Police said Wang inquired about her two engagement rings and two watches, and she was allowed to keep the two rings, but she returned only one and received the other without purchasing it. It is said that
The Cartier ring is worth $25,000.
And last month, Wang allegedly entered London Jewelers on Long Island and stole a Chopard watch worth $17,000.
Nassau County police arrested Wang following the theft, but he later pleaded not guilty to grand larceny charges. Wang is also wanted in California and Florida for similar jewelry heists.
