Welcome to Playing Through’s morning ritual, Golf Talk Today.
Each morning on “Golf Talk Today,” our staff discusses various aspects of the PGA Tour, LIV Golf and other professional golf tournaments.
The 2024 Paris Olympics kicks off with the men’s golf competition beginning on Thursday, with 60 men competing in a 72-hole stroke play event.
Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark will represent Team USA this week.
They will compete for gold, silver and bronze at Le Golf National, site of the 2018 Ryder Cup.
Before the Olympics begin, let’s take a look at the four-man U.S. National Team and what they’ve accomplished so far in 2024.

Scottie Schaeffler
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the first athlete on this Olympic team.
It’s been a good year for Scheffler, with the top-ranked athlete already scoring six wins on the season.
In 16 tournaments, the former Texas Longhorns player has six wins, two runner-up finishes, 14 top-10 finishes and 15 top-25 finishes. He has earned $28,148,691 this season alone.
Scheffler took home his second green jacket and won four of the eight signature events, with his worst finish being T41 at the U.S. Open and T8 at the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club and T7 at The British Open in the other two majors.
A gold medal would add to his historic record for 2024.

Xander Schauffele
Next up for Team USA is world No. 2 Xander Schauffele, who has had a huge season this year with two wins, both of which came at major tournaments.
In 18 events, Schauffele has two wins, two runner-up finishes, 12 top 10s and 17 top 25s. The 30-year-old Schauffele finished second to Scheffler this season with $15,867,160 in earnings.
Schauffele won the gold medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and is a top contender for the 2024 Olympics.

Collin Morikawa
The third member of Team USA is Collin Morikawa. While he has yet to win in 2024, he has come close on a number of occasions. Morikawa is currently ranked sixth in the Official World Golf Rankings and boasts six career wins.
The 27-year-old Morikawa has one runner-up finish, seven top 10s and 14 top 25s in 18 tournaments. He finished the season tied for third at the Masters, tied for fourth at the PGA Championship, tied for 14th at the U.S. Open and tied for 16th at the British Open.
He also finished runner-up at the Memorial earlier in the season.
Morikawa also competed in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, but narrowly missed out on the podium, coming in fourth place behind bronze medalist CT Pang.

Wyndham Clark
Last but not least, Wyndham Clark has earned the fourth spot on the U.S. team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Clark hasn’t had his best season, but he did win one tournament at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am early in the 2024 season and also challenged Scheffler at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship.
But since those impressive results, Clark has not been able to live up to the expectations that came with winning the 2023 U.S. Open.
In 17 tournaments, Clark has one win, two runner-up finishes, six top 10s, and six top 25s. He made the cut in 12 of 17 tournaments this season. He missed the cut in the Masters, PGA Championship, and British Open. He tied for 56th at the U.S. Open.
