A man was apprehended on Thursday after allegedly bypassing security at NBC’s studios in New York while searching for Al Roker, according to reports. This occurred during the live broadcast of Today.

In an unexplained incident, the individual allegedly lunged at co-host Craig Melvin and shouted a racial slur before being subdued by security. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the show resumed shortly afterward.

The NYPD confirmed, “On Thursday, July 16, 2026, at approximately 9:19 a.m., we received reports of a disorderly person inside 30 Rockefeller Center. Officers responded quickly and took an unidentified individual into custody. No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.”

Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie is taking some time off from the show as she films a new Wordle game show. She expressed excitement about the project, stating, “We’re going to be filming the entire season, and we can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

NBC News Today released a statement that read, “A security incident occurred this morning. An individual entered an unauthorized area near Studio 1A, approached anchor Craig Melvin, and alerted security. The individual was taken into custody without incident, and there was no altercation.” The network emphasized its commitment to safety and security for employees and visitors alike.
