Police were called to the 500 block of St. Louis Street just after 6 p.m. last Tuesday, the department said, adding that officers found a man lying injured on the porch of a home.
KDSK said police officers provided medical aid until local emergency services took over, but the man, identified a day later as Gagen, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, which took over the investigation because the homeowner’s family members are part-time employees of the Collinsville Police Department, said the homeowner asked Gegen to come out the front door of the residence, but Gegen did not respond. decided to refuse.
