Authorities reported that the creator of a notable fashion label was discovered deceased on a boat at a high-end yacht club on Long Island.
Martha Nolan Oslatala, 33, who resided in Manhattan, was found around midnight on Tuesday. The boat was docked at the Montauk Yacht Club, as stated by the police. Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Murder Squad have initiated an extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
“There will be a lot of conversations going on.”
The Suffolk County Police Department highlighted a 911 call received from a man who reported an unconscious woman on a boat at the Montauk Yacht Club located on Star Island Road.
Efforts by nearby “good Samaritans” to administer CPR were unfortunately unsuccessful. The authorities pronounced Nolan-Oslatara dead onsite.
The initial investigation has not yet determined the cause of death; an autopsy by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to provide clarity.
In addition to the mystery surrounding her death, crime scene technicians and the Suffolk County Crime Institute van were reportedly present at the yacht club until late Tuesday evening.
However, the Suffolk County Police Department noted that there were “no signs of violence” on the woman’s body when found.
Unidentified members of the Montauk Yacht Club reported hearing screams from the dock late Monday night.
“She was well-known in the community, very friendly, and always laughing,” stated one member. “There’s going to be a lot of discussion going forward.”
A spokesperson for the Montauk Yacht Club expressed sorrow over the incident, stating that the club is cooperating with law enforcement while prioritizing the safety of its guests and staff.
Nolan-Oslatala founded her sustainable fashion brand, East X East, with the ethos that fashion should not come at the expense of the environment. The brand focuses on eco-friendly resort wear, swimming attire, and more.
A partner of Nolan-Oslatala posted a heartfelt tribute on social media, reminiscing about their dreams and laughter shared.
Previously, Nolan-Oslatala discussed her journey from a small town in Ireland to pursuing her ambitions in the US, expressing a desire for success while acknowledging the challenges of the fashion industry.
