Former White House Advisor to Testify Before House Committee
A former senior advisor to the White House is set to answer questions from the House Oversight Committee on Friday. GOP members are looking into whether advisors to former President Joe Biden are concealing evidence regarding his mental and physical health.
Ashley Williams, who was the deputy director for a Biden administration initiative, is expected to be interviewed in a secure room around 11 a.m. on Friday. If she does attend, Williams will be the third person from Biden’s inner circle to be called to testify as part of the ongoing investigation led by Rep. James Comer.
White House Waives Executive Privilege for Testimony
Alongside the question of whether Biden’s aides are withholding information about his health, Comer is also exploring the possibility that an executive order may have been signed without the former president’s awareness. Allies of Biden have denied past claims of impropriety.
However, Republican investigators point to a debate from June 2024 where media reports suggested growing concerns about Biden’s fitness for office, concerns allegedly not previously disclosed by his inner circle.
Williams is one of three former advisors who appeared before the House Oversight Committee in July 2024 to discuss Biden’s mental fitness. At that time, the White House dismissed the inquiry as a political stunt.
Doctor’s Testimony Raises Questions
The expected hearing on Friday follows an encounter earlier this week with Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s former doctor, who testified for about 30 minutes, invoking the Fifth Amendment for most questions. After his appearance, Comer made statements implying a serious cover-up regarding Biden’s cognitive abilities.
“Dr. O’Connor chose not to answer whether he had been instructed to misrepresent President Biden’s health,” Comer said. “Congress needs to develop measures to prevent such cover-ups in the future.”
According to O’Connor’s legal team, their client refused to answer questions out of concern that House investigators may not respect doctor-patient confidentiality rights. They emphasized that revealing private medical information could endanger O’Connor’s professional standing and violate ethical principles.
This situation continues to unfold as the investigation garners attention, leaving many wondering about the implications for Biden and his administration.
