California Under Investigation for Alleged Fraud
California is now facing scrutiny for potential fraud, as President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social. He remarked on Tuesday that the state’s corruption levels surpass those of Minnesota.
“California, under Governor Gavin Newscum, is more corrupt than Minnesota, if that’s possible??? The Fraud Investigation of California has begun. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump expressed in his post.
Details regarding the specific investigators or the focus of the inquiry weren’t disclosed by the president. There are, however, voices within the GOP calling for a closer look at the state’s financial practices.
Steve Hilton, a GOP candidate for governor, alongside Herb Morgan, a candidate for state controller, has approached Attorney General Pam Bondi. They’re requesting investigations into suspected fraudulent activities.
In their letter, they are also advocating for independent audits of various state programs, including Medi-Cal and CalFresh. Furthermore, they are seeking systems for real-time public tracking of state payments.
The duo claims that fraud and misuse of funds within California total approximately $250 billion, and they revealed this information as part of their “CALIFRAUDIA” investigation.
“WHY does California have the highest costs? CALIFRAUDIA. The corruption and fraud from Gavin Newsom and 16 years of one-party rule have RUINED our state. We need change in 2026.” — Steve Hilton tweeted.
This situation certainly raises questions about the fiscal management within California. The proposed inquiries underline ongoing concerns about state governance.
