Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC’s Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing by her family around noon on Sunday near Tucson, Arizona. She was last seen at her home on Saturday night, and authorities are treating her disappearance as a criminal case.
The missing person, Nancy Guthrie, was identified in an NBC News report on Monday.
On Monday, law enforcement officials stated they are now investigating her disappearance as a crime, according to reports.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos mentioned that processing the crime scene led them to believe an actual crime occurred. He noted that Guthrie does not suffer from any cognitive impairment.
He emphasized, “We know she didn’t just walk away.” Sheriff’s officials also confirmed that the elderly woman was in good mental health.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department shared a flyer online featuring her photo, stating she is a “vulnerable adult” and urged anyone with information to call 911.
Nanos expressed that the conditions at the home raised “grave concern” for investigators, explaining that the situation stood out based on what was observed at the scene.
Meanwhile, local news reported over 100 individuals were involved in the search for the missing woman.
Today Show host Jenna Hager mentioned on Monday that Guthrie had not taken her medication. She expressed concern, saying, “We have our dearest Savannah and her entire family in our prayers right now.”
The FBI has been made aware of the matter, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents are assisting with search and rescue efforts, including using dogs.
Authorities are conducting searches using drones, planes, and helicopters, along with volunteers.
In a statement, Savannah expressed gratitude for the support and encouraged anyone with information to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
