Cryptocurrency Investor Indicted for Allegedly Torturing Partner
Police reports indicate that a cryptocurrency investor has been indicted for the alleged torture of his former business partner, utilizing methods such as tasers and chainsaws over a disturbing two-week period.
John Wertz, 37, was found barefoot on the street in Manhattan’s Soho area on Friday morning. It seems he had previously conducted business with the 28-year-old victim, whose identity hasn’t been disclosed. According to police sources, Wertz lured the victim to a townhouse on Princess Street on May 6, confiscated his passport, and restrained him.
Additionally, a 24-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the case.
The victim reportedly faced severe abuse, including being bound with electrical cords, having his feet submerged in water, and being coerced into ingesting drugs. One of the more chilling methods involved using an electric chainsaw as a threat. Sources disclosed that Polaroid photographs exist, showing the victim tied up and subjected to various forms of torture, including images of him in a chair with a firearm nearby.
Eventually, the victim managed to escape and contacted a nearby police officer. Law enforcement arrived swiftly around 10 AM, causing a scene as police, SWAT teams, and emergency vehicles converged at the scene.
Wertz has been charged with multiple counts, including second-degree assault, luring, and unlawful imprisonment. Leaving the precinct wearing a white T-shirt, he remained silent as reporters shouted questions at him.
The alleged victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Meanwhile, the female co-suspect, Beatrice Folk, faces similar charges related to the case.
A local resident remarked on Wertz, indicating he seemed like a respectable individual, describing him in a sophisticated bathrobe and well-groomed appearance, suggesting no visible signs of trouble.
At this time, the second suspect related to the case has not been caught.
