Iowa governor officially endorses DeSantis at Des Moines rally

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) announced her support for Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis at a rally in Des Moines on Monday night.

“But if we don’t get this next election right, if we don’t make the right choices, we’re not going to take this country back,” Reynolds said. at a meeting for DeSantis in Des Moines. “So we have to do everything we can to make the right choice. Not only do we have to make sure we elect someone who can win and defeat Joe Biden, but we also have to make sure we elect someone who can win and defeat Joe Biden. We need a president with the skills and determination to reverse the madness we see every day.”

NBC News first reported news of the endorsement last week.

reynolds credited DeSantis cited Florida’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic as one of the reasons for his support.

Reynolds has previously vowed to remain neutral in the 2024 Republican primary, but has been repeatedly targeted by former President Trump for doing so. She previously appeared on the campaign trail with Mr. DeSantis and his wife, Casey, over the summer.

Ahead of the expected announcement, President Trump accused the Iowa governor of “dishonesty.” He predicted that her decision to endorse her would be “the end of her political career,” adding that “MAGA will never support her again.”
