of iowa hawkeyes and university university The Huskies played one of the most anticipated women’s college basketball games in the history of the sport Friday night in Cleveland in the Final Four. Both teams engaged in a rock fight that could be considered an act of charity. It was a physical, low-scoring match where superstars Caitlin Clark and Paige Backers couldn’t find their best rhythm.
The game came down to the final possession and ended with a very controversial call from the officials. With less than 10 seconds left and University leading by one point, Huskies big Aliyah Edwards was called for a moving screen, effectively ending the game.
Iowa State defeated UW 71-69 to advance to the women’s national championship game. The Hawkeyes will face No. 1 overall seed South Carolina for the title.
The offensive foul call against Edwards will be debated for days, if not years. Watch the play here:
that call back that The circumstances that decided the match are definitely disappointing. Was it a moving screen? It looks that way, but there were far more blatant movement screens during games that weren’t called.
Here’s a look at it from another angle:
The reaction on social media was swift and furious. No one wanted to see the referee decide the match.
Naaaaaaaaaaaa! ! ! I’m not keen on that call.

This game was too good and there was too much at stake for the referee to play such a big role in the final stages of the game.

Man. I don’t want a game like this to be remembered for that call at the end.

Clark had 21 points on 7-of-18 shooting, nine rebounds and seven assists. The Buccaneers scored 17 points on 7-of-17 shooting. Hannah Stuelke was the star for Iowa, scoring a game-high 23 points. It was only the second time all year that a player other than Clark led the Hawkeyes in scoring.
Iowa State is back in the national title game for the second year in a row. The game against South Carolina is going to be a very difficult game. The whole world will be watching. Unfortunately, the game against UConn didn’t provide the ending the millions of people watching at home deserved.
