Caitlin Clark has taken the college basketball world by storm. The Iowa State basketball superstar is trying to break the NCAA women’s all-time scoring record.
Clark finished Sunday’s loss to Nebraska with 31 points. Heading into Thursday’s game against Michigan, Clark is seven points away from tying the record and eight points away from becoming the sole holder of a new scoring title. Iowa coach Lisa Bruder originally planned to take a timeout to allow Clark, the team and the fans to savor the moment.
But the standout point guard isn’t interested in the game stopping for a while, and “I hope they don’t stop the game,” Clark told reporters Wednesday. “We can’t waste our timeout on that, come on.”

Bruder later said she planned to talk to Clark about how to handle this special moment, but acknowledged: “If she doesn’t want it, I don’t think I want it either.”

If there was a natural break in play right after Clark set a record, he could use that break to celebrate his accomplishment.

Through 25 games, Clark is averaging a career-high 32.1 points per game. The Hawkeyes, last season’s national championship runner-up, won 20 of 22 games.
Clark and No. 4 Iowa have become must-see attractions for fans across the country. Nearly every basketball arena the Hawkeyes have visited this season has been sold out. Fans who were unable to secure tickets before they sold out were forced to rely on the secondary market, where ticket prices could run into the thousands of yen.

According to ticket market Vivid Seat, the game against Iowa is among the five most sought-after NCAA women’s games of the year. Since Clark joined the team in 2020, the Hawkeyes’ average ticket price has increased by 224%, and the average distance fans traveled to watch an Iowa game increased by 34% compared to last season.
Fans who want to say they went to the arena on Thursday to watch Clark try to set a scoring record will likely have to pay an unprecedented premium.

Even the people in charge of the show were having a hard time accommodating everyone who wanted tickets.
“I had to say no to a lot of people,” Clark said, but he still wasn’t able to care for a large group of family and friends at Thursday night’s game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Ta.
