Iranian Resistance Rally in D.C. Calls for Tough U.S. Policy on Islamic Regime

Iran's opposition leaders and supporters gathered in Washington, D.C. to seek America's firm stance on the Iranian priesthood regime and supported it to overthrow it.

Thousands of Iranian Americans and supporters of the Iranian Resistance Council (NCRI) marched from the Capitol on Saturday to the White House, waving flags and demanding free Iran.

The rally, held on International Women's Day, called on leaders of the United States and the world to recognize the rights of Iranian people to overthrow the Tehranian regime.

The demonstrations center on Mariam Rajabi's 10-point plan for the NCRI presidential election, which is democratic, secular and non-nuclear Iranian. Participants sought international recognition of Iranian resistance units challenging the regime's brutal enforcer, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC).

Rajabi spoke to the crowd via video from France and declared, “Now is the time to stand up.”

She refused to rely on foreign interventions, stressing that Iran's future must be determined by its own people. She also condemned efforts to revive Iran's former monarchy and call it the “pawn of religious fascism that controls.”

A prominent American person has expressed strong support for Iran's opposition.

Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) spoke at the event, condemning the administration's brutal oppression of women and warned of its nuclear ambitions.

“We stand with the people of Iran and reject the parasitic regime that has ruled that country since 1979,” he said.

Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani also spoke to the crowd, saying, “Once again, sanctions have been placed on one of the most brutal regimes in world history.”

“you [don’t] You need an American or European army – you only need yourself, Madame Rajabi and the NCRI,” he declared, highlighting the fear of the Iranian regime's MEK (Mojahedin organization of the Iranian people) and its role in past uprisings.

Additionally, former U.S. Senator and Kansas Governor Ambassador Sam Brownback led the chant, “Now nuclear, no more mullahs.” “Now or nuclear. We have to change it.”

He called for stronger European support and a US-led “maximum pressure” campaign to drive a change of government.

The rally highlighted the demand for growth for a more stringent stance on Tehran as opposition forces gain momentum. With Iran accelerated its nuclear program and strengthened its repression, NCRI supporters argue that for the Iranian people it is a complete change of government by the Iranian people.
