During a speech at the UN General Assembly on Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed optimism about the future of Iran and the Middle East, stating that the “long-time Iranian people will regain freedom” and that the region will be “dramatically different” in the coming years.
Netanyahu linked this optimism to recent military successes against what he termed Iran’s “terror axis.” He noted that these victories have opened up new opportunities for peace, even with former adversaries. “Many of those fighting against Israel today will be gone tomorrow. The courageous peacemakers will emerge in their place,” he told the audience of world leaders.
The Israeli Prime Minister addressed the Iranian people directly, asserting that they would eventually free themselves from the leadership of the Ayatollah. “This is not just an aspiration. The resilient people of Iran will regain their freedom. They will make Iran great again!” he said, echoing a familiar political slogan.
Netanyahu emphasized Israel’s strength as a cornerstone for future stability, referencing the events of October 7th and the Jewish state’s commitment to defending itself against its enemies. “Our sons and daughters fought fiercely, invigorated by the hopes of countless generations of Jews before them,” he remarked.
He advocated for direct negotiations with Lebanon, contingent on the government’s commitment to disarm Hezbollah. He also expressed readiness for potential discussions with Syria’s new leadership, which seemed improbable in the past but now appears possible following the defeat of jihadist groups. He highlighted the historical bond between Jews and Druze, recalling a time during his military service when Druze comrades had saved his life, emphasizing that Israel would not remain passive while allies faced threats.
Netanyahu’s forward-looking message included a call to Arab and Muslim leaders to collaborate with Israel across various sectors such as medicine, agriculture, and technology. “Visionary Arab and Muslim leaders recognize that partnering with Israel will introduce them to groundbreaking Israeli innovations,” he stated, suggesting that a transformed Middle East may be on the horizon.
“In two years, Israel’s determination and strength will shine brighter than ever,” Netanyahu concluded. “With God’s guidance, we can achieve a future filled with victory, prosperity, and peace.”
