Iran's UN ambassador criticizes Trump in the final moments before the Strait of Hormuz deadline

Iran’s UN ambassador criticized President Donald Trump on Tuesday, just hours before his deadline for reopening the critical Strait of Hormuz. He described one of Trump’s posts on Truth Social as “extremely irresponsible” and “disturbing.”

Trump has set a deadline of 8 PM ET for Iran to reopen the vital waterway or face military action against its power plants and bridges. He stated, “An entire civilization will die tonight and will never rise again.” He expressed his desire to prevent this outcome, adding that it was likely to happen.

Amir Saeed Iravani, the Iranian ambassador, spoke at the UN headquarters, stating, “Today, the president of the United States once again used language that is not only highly irresponsible but also extremely worrying, declaring that ‘an entire civilization will perish tonight and will never be regained.’”

Iravani further remarked, “It is regrettable and disturbing that, in full view of the international community, the President of the United States has shamelessly and brazenly threatened to set a deadline and destroy all Iranian civilian infrastructure, including bridges and power plants.”

When approached for a response, the White House noted that the Iranian regime has committed serious human rights abuses over 47 years. They mentioned the regime’s violent actions against protesters and its indiscriminate targeting of civilians in the region.

Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly reiterated Trump’s stance, emphasizing that Iran would never obtain nuclear weapons and that the Iranian people desire liberation from their oppressors. She urged that if the Iranian administration recognizes the seriousness of the situation and reaches an agreement with the U.S., further destruction could be avoided.

Trump elaborated on the potential for change, suggesting that a “different, wiser” mindset could lead to positive developments. He declared this night might mark a significant moment in global history, stating, “47 years of extortion, corruption, and death are finally over. God bless the great people of Iran!”
