The situation involving Skyler Thompson, quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, took a new turn after the team’s return to the U.S. following an incident in Dublin last week. Irish authorities have stated that no formal complaints have been filed regarding allegations of Thompson being assaulted and taken against his will.
According to the National Police Garda Síochána, there is no evidence to suggest a robbery occurred involving Thompson. Reports mentioned that he allegedly suffered minor injuries during the incident, which involved a group of men near the Temple Bar area, and that his phone was taken.
Authorities indicated that they encountered a man needing medical assistance early Saturday, who matched Thompson’s description, but they haven’t provided further details regarding the assault claims. The Steelers have responded with a statement: “We are aware of the circumstances involving Skyler Thompson in Dublin. Currently, we are coordinating with NFL Security to obtain more details about what happened.”
The NFL Players Association has also released a statement, emphasizing their commitment to the health and safety of players. They stated they would continue to support Thompson as he navigates this situation, especially given the context of international games.
Thompson, who joined the Steelers earlier this year after a stint with the Miami Dolphins, has been adjusting to his new role. He began training with the team and was recently sidelined with a hamstring injury. Along with Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph, he is part of the team’s quarterback lineup.
In other news, the Steelers recently claimed victory against the Vikings, ending the game with a score of 24 to 21.
