Is Nate Dead in 'Euphoria'? Explanation of the Ending of Season 3 Episode 7

euphoria Season 3 Episode 7: A Shocking Turn of Events

euphoria Season 3 Episode 7 culminates in a heartbreaking moment with the death of a key character.

**Spoiler alert: euphoria Season 3 Episode 7 “Rise and Shine” is available now on HBO Max**

Indeed, Nate (Jacob Elordi) meets his end in this episode, but surprisingly, it’s not at the hands of the nefarious loan shark Naz (Jack Topalian). Instead, he falls victim to a rattlesnake. (And yes, rattlesnakes are incredibly venomous and dangerous!)

At the start of Season 3, Nate and Cassie (Sidney Sweeney) appear to be enjoying the perfect family life. Nate’s luxurious lifestyle hinges on a $1 million loan from his “partner” Naz. Their scheme involved a retirement community that would supposedly profit Naz’s coffin business. However, the discovery of an endangered flower halts construction on the Sun Settlers site, throwing Nate into turmoil.

The previous episode left viewers with a chilling cliffhanger, showing Cassie receiving a menacing email featuring Nate’s severed ring finger, along with a note pleading for him to answer his phone. In this week’s episode, we see the fallout as Naz coerces Cassie into finding the funds. She hesitates, partly because she just deleted her OnlyFans account. When she fails to find the money, Naz and his enforcer, Artur (Matthew Willig), storm into Cassie’s apartment, taking her hostage.

Naz gives Cassie a deadline of 72 hours to sort things out. When she questions the time frame, he chillingly explains that’s how long it takes to die from dehydration. Cassie, in a panic, fears he will withhold water during that time, and Naz doesn’t hesitate to remind her, “We’re talking about Nate.”

Meanwhile, at the Sun Settlers site, Nate is trapped in an underground coffin with just a single pipe for light and water. He screams for help, but no one comes, not even his own brother. Will Cassie manage to secure the money from Naz? How will Nate’s story come to a close?

euphoria Season 3 Episode 7 Ending Explained: Nate’s Fate

In a twist, Nate doesn’t succumb to dehydration but rather gets bitten by a rattlesnake that sneaks through the drainpipe.

Let’s rewind a bit. When Cassie realizes both their lives are at risk, she turns to her go-to ally in crises: Maddie (Alexa Demie). Naz and Cassie eventually reach out to the resourceful Maddie, delivering an ultimatum regarding Cassie’s fate. If funds aren’t found, Naz threatens to harm Cassie.

Maddie then approaches Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) on Cassie’s behalf, having to degrade herself by wearing a humiliating swimsuit and entering a hot tub to plead her case. Maddie argues that Cassie is worth the investment, framing it as a “money tree.” There’s a hint that Maddie might have engaged in dubious dealings with Alamo, though the details are left vague. Clad in a revealing dress, she witnesses Alamo preparing a gun and a bag full of cash.

Later that night, Alamo and Maddie arrive at Sun Settlers, where Alamo pressures Maddie to deliver the money to Naz. Terrified, she steps into the glaring headlights and drops the bag. Naz, who allows Cassie, still bound, to retrieve it, is unimpressed when he opens it—responding with, “Is this a joke?” Suddenly, Alamo shoots Naz.

As Naz lies dying, begging for help, Alamo turns away and shoots him in the head. It’s revealed the bag contained only a deck of cards. Maddie watches in shock while Artur uses construction tools to reach the coffin. As Cassie shouts words of encouragement, the lid opens, revealing Nate already lifeless, a rattlesnake coiled around him.

The camera pulls up to show Nate, his body unresponsive, eyes dull, and tongue swollen. Rest in peace, Nate Jacobs.

The series finale of euphoria will air on Sunday, May 31st at 9 PM ET on HBO and HBO Max.
