New Zombie Film: 28 Years Later

It’s been 23 years since the release of 28 Days Later, and now the much-anticipated third installment of the zombie apocalypse series, 28 Years Later, is finally hitting theaters this weekend.

Directed by Danny Boyle and co-written with Alex Garland, 28 Years Later picks up, as you might guess, 28 years after the events of 28 Weeks Later from 2007 — which is a slight oversight in timeline but, hey, who’s counting months? The story follows survivors navigating a changed world, striving for survival while staying clear of infection. Featuring a fresh ensemble led by Jodie Comer, who plays Isla, a woman suffering from amnesia, the film sees her husband, Jamie (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson), trying to keep them both alive amidst chaos.

The cast also includes Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, Erin Kellyman, and Edvin Ryding. Fans can expect the same thrilling tension and dread that made the first two movies a hit. Here’s what you should know about where to catch 28 Years Later in theaters and its potential streaming availability.

Where to Watch 28 Years Later

28 Years Later premieres in theaters nationwide on Friday, June 20. If you’re looking to catch a showing, you can easily find one near you.

Streaming Availability: Netflix and Amazon Prime

As of now, 28 Years Later is exclusive to theaters and not available for streaming on Netflix or Amazon. If you want to see it, your only option is to go to a cinema. That said, 28 Years Later is produced by Sony, and there’s a good chance it will eventually be available on Netflix.

When the movie does become available for purchase or rental, you might find it on platforms like Amazon. But, for the moment, anyone eager to watch it will have to wait for it to come out for home viewing or digital streaming.

When Could 28 Years Later Stream on Netflix?

There’s speculation that 28 Years Later might make its way to Netflix by fall 2025. According to a deal between Netflix and Sony Pictures, Sony films typically become available on streaming platforms a few months after their DVD release. Recent Sony projects, like Paddington, were available on Netflix roughly four months post-theatrical release.

If 28 Years Later follows a similar timeline, expect it to be on Netflix around late October 2025, just four months after it debuts in theaters. In the meantime, it’s best to catch the film on the big screen.
