As we look to the future of human life in space, one project stands out. Haven-1 is a commercial space station designed by pioneering aerospace company Vast. As NASA plans to retire the International Space Station (ISS) by 2030, the spotlight is on innovative companies like Vast that are redefining the way we live and work in orbit. It's moving.

Haven-1 concept
Haven-1 gives us a glimpse of what future space settlements might look like. Unlike the messy, utilitarian design of NASA's ISS, Haven-1 features a sleek, minimalist aesthetic. The design of the capsule focuses on human-centric features, ensuring not only functionality but also comfort for passengers.

Main features of Haven-1
Key features of Haven-1 include an interior designed with warmth and comfort in mind, featuring fire-resistant maple veneer slats that create a more inviting atmosphere. Each crew member will have a private space slightly larger than that on the ISS, designed for relaxation, entertainment, and communication with loved ones back on Earth via the SpaceX Starlink connection.
The common areas are multifunctional hubs that encourage collaboration and relaxation, complete with 1.1 meter domed observation windows offering breathtaking views of the Earth. This area also includes a deployable communal table and fitness equipment integrated within the station, serving as a multipurpose space.

Heaven-1 Lab
Adjacent to the common areas and at the heart of Haven-1 is the Laboratory, the world's first commercial microgravity research, development and manufacturing platform. The lab will feature 10 payload slots, equivalent to mid-deck lockers, for innovations that benefit life on Earth and advance human spaceflight. Storage corridors connect different parts of the station, and the overall design supports microgravity research and exploration.

advanced life support system
Vast is working to ensure that astronauts can thrive in microgravity. The company has developed a patent-pending sleep system designed to accommodate a variety of sleep positions and provide even pressure throughout the night. This is an essential feature given the challenges of sleeping in space.

Timeline until release
Vast aims to launch Haven-1 on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket as early as 2025. The plan is ambitious, but the company has retained experienced talent, including former NASA astronaut Andrew J. Fostel, to guide its design and operational strategy.

Future plans
If successful, Haven-1 could pave the way for larger modules and “artificial gravity stations” capable of accommodating eight crew members by the 2030s. These plans seek to secure financial commitments from potential customers, including governments and commercial space agencies seeking research opportunities in low Earth orbit.
