It’s Time for Chris Jericho to Come Home

Chris Jericho’s moment to return to WWE seems to be upon us, signaling the end of his impressive 35+ year journey in wrestling.

Tonight’s “Monday Night Raw” at the Barclays Center marks WWE’s one-year anniversary on Netflix. Expectations are high for Jericho’s potential return. Reports indicate that his contract with AEW is set to expire at the end of 2025, and hints suggest he might be making his way back to WWE soon. Notably, RAW general manager Adam Pearce referenced “breaking down the wall” in a promotional video posted on Instagram.

It would be quite the spectacle to see Jericho make an appearance, perhaps even in a crossover with “Stranger Things.” I can’t help but think he might hit it off well with Eddie Munson.

For many, this feels like the right step forward. Hardcore AEW fans might feel differently, but I think they understand this could be the best for everyone involved.

At 55, Jericho has accomplished a lot during his time in AEW, especially since its resurgence in 2019 under Tony Khan and The Elite. He helped elevate the promotion’s profile, being featured as its inaugural World Champion, which brought crucial star power.

Moreover, he was instrumental in the development of talents like MJF, Sammy Guevara, Orange Cassidy, and Daniel Garcia. Now, seven years on, it’s clear that his contributions have fostered growth for the organization.

Yet, it seems his time in AEW might be coming to a close. His “Learning Tree” project didn’t quite take off, and I think many have noticed he struggles to keep up with the fast-paced competition today. At one point, fans even encouraged him to consider retirement following his loss of the Ring of Honor World Championship to Bandido last June. It felt like audiences were ready to see new stars have their moment.

A move to WWE wouldn’t mean turning his back on AEW; rather, it could be a recognition that it’s simply time to pivot. There isn’t much left for him to achieve there.

Jericho is connected to WWE’s history, akin to the paths of Cody Rhodes and CM Punk, having spent approximately 14 years there on different occasions. Returning could reignite goodwill among WWE fans, who would likely embrace him with open arms. Currently, his wrestling style is focused on speed, and there are still many seasoned performers at the top of the roster. Jericho’s physical transformation over recent years demonstrates he’s ready to step back into the ring.

This return could mean fresh opponents and new characters for him to engage with. Think about his interactions with names like “Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns, L.A. Knight, Dominik Mysterio, Joe Hendry, or Logan Paul. The creative possibilities are intriguing, particularly with talents like Hendry and Knight. He could even choose to continue working alongside familiar faces like Ethan Page, Rhodes, and Punk or even venture into TNA or NXT, opening up various avenues.

I personally would love to see Jericho remain active for more than just another year to avoid a retirement announcement at next year’s Saudi WrestleMania. Wouldn’t it be something if he could say farewell at SummerSlam? Perhaps WWE could even arrange a “Saturday Night Main Event” for him similar to what Goldberg and John Cena received. An induction into the Hall of Fame feels like a sure thing, too.

It’s worth noting that Jericho has never hesitated to voice his concerns if he feels the creative direction isn’t right. If there’s ever a situation that seems off, Triple H seems likely to take his concerns seriously.

So, let’s tune in with our countdown chants: “Let’s break down the wall!” or the unmistakable sounds of “Judas” echoing from the speakers at Barclays Center on Monday.

It really is time for Chris Jericho to make his comeback. If there’s any animosity lingering, it’s time to let it go.
