Is Trump envisioning a way out for Iran’s leaders and a significant turning point?

President Trump appears to be at a significant crossroads in history. This moment, if navigated wisely, could reshape the Middle East for many years to come. It raises a crucial question: Should we push for more positive change?

I believe one of the main factors that sets Trump apart as a transformative president is his extensive business experience, something not seen in the Oval Office for a long time. On the other hand, Joe Biden has spent over fifty years in politics. Barack Obama was more of a community figure, lacking broader experience. George W. Bush benefited from his family’s political legacy, while Bill Clinton focused on academic and political pursuits. George HW Bush was a war hero who, somewhat surprisingly, entered politics. Ronald Reagan started as an actor before becoming a governor. It’s a mixed bag.

Despite their different backgrounds, each of these presidents operated within political systems, almost bound by their party affiliations. In contrast, Trump is the first in our lifetime to introduce a significant business perspective to the presidency, shaking off the long-standing ties to lobbying and elite interests in Washington.

His “America first” philosophy often positions him against older political norms, challenging established elites and mainstream media while disregarding untested academic opinions. We are observing these approaches play out amid the latest Israel-Iran tensions.

In business, you often face choices: to buy, sell, or hold back. Trump has practiced this many times while expanding his global business ventures, often trusting his instincts shaped by years of experience.

Initially, many of his supporters—and possibly Trump himself—thought the Israeli-Iran conflict was something to sidestep. However, Israel targeting Iran’s nuclear sites could shift the dynamics here, potentially paving the way for improved peace and stability in the region, while also enhancing U.S. national security.

Back during his first campaign in 2015, Trump consistently criticized the Iraq War for its tragic consequences and the role of neoconservatives who pushed for it. I’ve noticed similar sentiments about the Ukraine conflict; he advocates for peace, wanting to put an end to the devastating loss of life.

As a seasoned negotiator, Trump likely senses that Iran’s leadership may be desperate for a way out of its current situation.

He firmly believes Iran is a rogue state, responsible for the deaths of many American soldiers, all while managing some of the most dangerous terrorist groups. Their actions have led to instability and immense suffering throughout the region.

This situation begs the question: What happens when you have a rare chance to change the future? If there’s an opportunity to stop a malevolent force that could endanger millions, what do you do with it? But these chances don’t last forever.

Long-term politicians often resist genuine change, and I think Trump differs in his approach; he isn’t afraid to shake things up.

While he desires peace, Trump understands that establishing it often comes with costs. Early in his presidency, he jumped at the opportunity to defeat ISIS, one of the most feared terrorist organizations. Regarding Iran, he ordered the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani in response to his attacks on American forces.

Throughout his business career, Trump has employed a “carrot and stick” strategy, typically while maintaining an instinctual approach.

He initiated the “America First” movement, and now it seems he feels that there might be a fleeting opportunity to ignite an “Iran’s First” initiative, aiming to ease the suffering of the Iranian people who, like everyone else, seek peace. Iran seems ready for action, but they might need a catalyst to reclaim their country.

Perhaps, Trump is trying to provide that very catalyst.
