Murder Suspect Isabel Johnson Arrested After Multi-State Manhunt

After weeks of searching across Florida, Georgia, and Alabama, authorities have arrested murder suspect Isabel Johnson. The 38-year-old was taken into custody on Thursday at her home in Cottondale, located roughly an hour west of Tallahassee, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

Johnson is facing murder charges related to the death of Jason Coultart, whose body was discovered buried in a shallow grave in June. Her arrest ended a 45-day manhunt, and she is currently being held in the Jackson County Jail, awaiting extradition to Walton County. There are indications that additional charges may arise.

New Evidence Uncovered

“We have captured her,” noted the sheriff’s office. A tip regarding Johnson’s location was crucial in leading to her arrest, as mentioned by officials. Jackson County Sheriff Donald Edenfield reported that his deputies, alongside task force members, responded to the lead that directed them to her Cottondale residence.

Walton County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Dustin Cosson acknowledged the teamwork exhibited by various local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies which ultimately resulted in Johnson’s arrest. “It’s a really good day,” he said, emphasizing the importance of her apprehension.

In terms of the investigation, Cosson highlighted that it involved extensive efforts, including over 40 subpoenas and more than 20 search warrants. Johnson had been a person of interest since Coultart was reported missing on May 24, after being last seen at the College Condominiums in Niceville.

Connections to Other Arrests

The search for Coultart led law enforcement to a property off Sunset Lane in Freeport, where his body was found on June 25. In this case, five other individuals were arrested for allegedly helping Johnson in the aftermath of the crime, facing charges of aiding and abetting a felony.

Investigators have warned that further arrests could be forthcoming. The Walton County Sheriff’s Office previously described Johnson as “cunning” and a “master manipulator,” urging anyone who may have assisted her to come forward. Due to the ongoing investigation, details about her arrest might remain limited for now.
