Tension Erupts in Pistons vs. Hornets Game
Isaiah Stewart made headlines after a fiery confrontation during a game on Monday night.
The Detroit Pistons secured a 110-104 victory against the Charlotte Hornets, but things turned heated after a hard foul by Charlotte’s Moussa Diabaté on Jalen Duren. This event ignited a brawl on the court.
As the chaos unfolded, Hornets forward Miles Bridges threw a punch at Duren, prompting Stewart—known for his fiery temperament—to retaliate against Bridges.
At the time, Stewart wasn’t even on the court, but he quickly joined the fray from the bench. As he approached, Bridges aimed a punch at him, which Stewart narrowly avoided before chasing after him while other players attempted to intervene.
In the midst of the brawl, Stewart seemed to get several punches in while applying a headlock on Bridges.
The physicality escalated as Stewart held onto Bridges, who seemed to struggle. A group of staff members had a tough time restraining Stewart, given his size—he stands at 6-foot-8 and weighs 250 pounds.
In the end, the turmoil led to all four players involved—Stewart, Bridges, Duren, and Diabaté—being ejected, and they are likely to face suspensions from the NBA.
This isn’t Stewart’s first incident after losing his cool with another player; he had a notable confrontation with LeBron James during a game back in 2021.
Post-game, Pistons’ coach J.B. Bickerstaff defended his team, stating they had the right to react since Bridges initiated the confrontation and didn’t back off.
Bickerstaff emphasized, “Our players are dealing with a lot of things, but they didn’t start it and they didn’t cross the line tonight.” He noted, “If a guy throws a punch at you, you have a responsibility to protect yourself.”
This situation could prove troublesome for the Pistons, as they’re set to face the Knicks on February 19 after the All-Star break, potentially missing both Duren and Stewart.
