Islanders’ overtime loss to Flames hurts even more with playoff implications

How do you feel three periods of pain, just stinging a bit so slightly in the heat of a playoff race?

Well, looking at two of Calgary's four goals on Saturday, it's one way for Matt Coroner, a native Green Lawn and a childhood islander fan.

The other is watching Nazem Kadri win the game with Calgary overtime after the islanders slip through their fingers at the other end of the ice.

It helped the fledgling three-game islanders win a straight win, but they scored points after knocking back what was in the week of the playoff race after the flames handed over 4-3 overtime loss on Saturday at UBS Arena.

Clearly, this wasn't close enough to a 60-minute effort to produce two points.

There was a terrible 36 seconds of the game's first shift, and the islanders took the flames and passed the first goal of the game on a platter.

The long period and moments of the game in Calgary's Forecheck Humming, where the islanders struggled to acquire and maintain possession of the pack, all had a long game, and there was a quick let-down shift after Kyle McLean's goal placed the island ahead in the third second half.

In the meantime, there have been some good moments, especially with the bottom 6, which continues to build strong performances on top of each other.

However, there was a reason to play against the Calgary team as hungry as the islanders, and that wasn't enough.

With Montreal playing Colorado late in the evening, the buzzer still hadn't revealed the full extent of the damage.

However, the Island has two games as the Rangers defeated the Canucks, but fell two points ahead to Crosstown rivals.
