Israeli Drone Takes Out Hamas #2 Leader in Beirut Hideout

Israel killed Hamas deputy chief Saleh al-Arouri in a drone strike on the outskirts of Beirut on Tuesday night, according to media reports that the Israeli government has not confirmed.

Reuters report:

Allouri was the deputy head of Hamas' political bureau and the founder of the military wing, the Qassam Brigades, which carried out the deadly attack inside Israeli territory on October 7.

He has recently been in both Lebanon and Qatar, where Qatar has mediated negotiations between Hamas and Israel, including over hostages taken by Hamas in the October 7 attack. The United States, which recognizes Hamas as a terrorist organization, offered $5 million last year for information on Allouri.

Hamas-affiliated Al-Aqsa Radio confirmed Arouri's killing. Hamas politburo member Izzat al-Sharq called it a “despicable assassination.”

It is believed that there were other casualties, but their identities have not been identified. The drone may have targeted a meeting of terrorist officials.

Iran condemned the attack, as did the Lebanese government and the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. Palestinians in the West Bank also appeared to be protesting.

Israeli officials have repeatedly said in recent weeks that all Hamas leaders and members of the organization involved in the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel have been sentenced to death.

The only exception is reportedly Hamas officials currently in Qatar's capital Doha, who are currently trying to broker negotiations between Hamas and Israel for further deals for Palestinian terrorist prisoners and Israeli hostages.

of wall street journal report In October, it said Beirut was a key location for meetings between Iranian and Hamas officials, including a meeting about the October 7 terrorist attack, but there was no confirmation that Iran had approved the attack. Not yet.
