Israeli forces target Hezbollah as ceasefire breaches increase in Lebanon

Israeli Defense Minister Issues Warning to Hezbollah

Israel’s defense minister has raised concerns about Hezbollah’s military activities and their apparent lack of compliance with ceasefire agreements from last year. On Sunday, Defense Minister Israel Katz stated, “Hezbollah is playing with fire, and the Lebanese president is dragging his feet.” He emphasized that the Lebanese government must follow through on its promise to dismantle Hezbollah’s arms and ensure their removal from southern Lebanon. Katz warned that the military’s actions will escalate if threats to northern Israel continue.

This caution comes amid reports that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) is contemplating broader operations against groups supported by Iran, especially in light of recurring violations of ceasefires. An official from the IDF stationed at the northern border shared in an exclusive interview that Hezbollah remains well-armed and receives funding from Iran.

Recent military operations by the IDF have confirmed the killing of two Hezbollah commanders in southern Lebanon. A senior member of Hezbollah’s elite division was reportedly eliminated while gathering intelligence on Israeli positions. The IDF stated that these activities infringe upon agreements made between Israel and Lebanon and assured that efforts to eliminate threats to its national security will continue.

The IDF has adopted more proactive security measures, indicating a shift in strategy. An official mentioned that they are no longer willing to ignore potential threats, reflecting lessons learned from past incidents. “We can’t just sit back and wait for the next aggression,” he noted.

Israeli intelligence suggests that Hezbollah is quickly rebuilding its military capabilities, with Iranian assistance, despite ongoing turmoil in the region. U.S. officials have expressed frustration over Lebanon’s governance issues, labeling it a “failed state.” Recent remarks by Special Envoy Thomas Barrack highlighted concerns about the influence and funding Hezbollah commands compared to Lebanon’s national forces.

In response to Israel’s actions, Lebanon’s Foreign Minister has sought international cooperation to address these hostilities, proposing that only diplomatic solutions can lead to lasting peace in the South. Meanwhile, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon has also voiced concerns and called for all parties to uphold ceasefire agreements.

Despite international pressures, Israeli leaders maintain their resolve. They declared that they will not allow Hezbollah to rebuild its strength. “Our current calm hinges on their choices, not our willingness to defend ourselves,” said an IDF officer.
