Israel's cutting-edge iron beam laser defense system highlighted its role in strengthening national security and thwarting future threats, according to Defense Minister Israel Katz.
The Sunday announcement will have some delays, but will bolster previous forecasts.
Originally, authorities had expected the system to unfold much faster, but historical estimates from former Israeli Prime Minister Naphtari Bennett and other defense leaders predicted they would be ready for 2023.
However, the project is currently in its final stages as a $500 million production contract was signed last year between the Israeli Ministry of Defense, the Rafael Advanced Defense System and the ELBIT system.
Iron beams is a high power, ground-based laser system designed to intercept midrange threats from shorts, including rockets, UAVs and cruise missiles. Bring it in Cutting-edge laser defense from concept to reality complements your iron and doll and offers a more cost-effective defensive solution. Each laser shot costs just $2 compared to tens of thousands of iron domes.
Beyond ground defense, Israel plans to explore the deployment of aircraft laser systems, but progress is still years away.
Celebrating Rafael's contribution to Israel's multi-layered defense system, Katz issued a harsh warning to the enemy, saying that an attack on the Jewish state would meet a critical response.
Meanwhile, Israel continues to develop a variety of technologies to combat the evolving threat of aviation.
With advanced defence innovation, Israel remains a global leader in military technology, strengthening its strategic partnerships with key allies invested in regional stability and cutting-edge security solutions.
