Israel's UN envoy labels Mamdani a fool over Netanyahu's arrest attempt

Israeli Ambassador Critiques NYC Mayor’s Remarks on Netanyahu

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, criticized New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani on Wednesday, labeling him a “clown” after Mamdani suggested that federal authorities should arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu upon his arrival in New York.

Mamdani had earlier referred to Netanyahu as a “war criminal” and the “mastermind of a horrific genocide” against the Palestinian population, urging the federal government to act on an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.

Netanyahu is expected to speak at the United Nations General Assembly in Manhattan next month.

Danon’s Response

In his comments to FOX News Digital, Danon dismissed Mamdani’s statements as “baseless” and characterized them as part of a publicity stunt. “It’s a show,” he said. “The mayor should focus on New York’s own problems like homelessness and refuse to meddle in foreign affairs.” He also stressed that the safety of all New Yorkers, especially the Jewish community, should come first.

In a recent video published by the New York City Mayor’s Office, Mamdani reiterated his stance, stating, “Benyamin Netanyahu is a war criminal,” echoing his prior remarks in an interview with the New York Times.

Mamdani made serious accusations against Israeli leadership, alleging that they were responsible for the deaths and severe injuries of many, including children, and criticized the targeting of hospitals and humanitarian aid access.

More Controversy

According to Mamdani, Palestinian children have been intentionally harmed by Israeli forces despite what was supposed to be a ceasefire, arguing that the U.S. is complicit by financing it. He echoed calls for the federal government to join the ICC in enforcing the arrest warrant.

Danon rebuffed these claims vigorously, highlighting that substantial humanitarian aid is reaching Gaza every day. He remarked on the absurdity of the accusations, suggesting that Mamdani is propagating false narratives about Israel. “He wants to go back to the past, but there is no current humanitarian crisis in Gaza,” he claimed.

Mamdani acknowledged that the city hall lacks the legal authority to act against the warrant independently, urging instead for federal action against Netanyahu, declaring, “Benyamin Netanyahu is not welcome in New York City.”

Netanyahu’s Stance

Israeli officials have categorically denied all accusations against Netanyahu, with his office dismissing the ICC’s authority as illegitimate. Danon stated, “People see there’s no legal foundation for his claims, as the U.S. isn’t part of the ICC.” He emphasized that pressing issues, such as the ongoing tensions with Iran, deserve attention instead.

Danon noted that despite Mamdani’s comments, Netanyahu remains focused on addressing the UN Assembly. He added, “The prime minister will visit New York and deliver his speech, and the mayor should just come and listen.”
