Actor and left-wing activist Robert De Niro led a group of Italian-Americans in the “Paisans for Kamala” livestreamed fundraiser on Sunday, aimed at garnering support and donations for the Democratic candidate. The event reportedly raised $40,000, and De Niro issued a warning to Democrats in the run-up to the election.

De Niro said he was “very optimistic” about the election but advised people to remain vigilant.

“I'm very optimistic about everything,” he said. The Hollywood Reporter “I'm very excited, but for me, it's not over until it's over, so don't think for a second that we have the upper hand on this. We need to stay focused all the way to the end because come Election Day they're going to pull out all the stops.”

“When will these things be finalized? What will they question? What will they negotiate around? We know it's coming, we see it coming. We have to be vigilant at all times. And it's not over until it's over,” he added.

De Niro also expressed concern that the January 6th riot at the Capitol could happen again if Trump loses.

“If God wills it, Kamala and Waltz will make a big thing happen and what happened will happen. [on] “I think that no matter what Trump says on January 6th, people are going to be hesitant to do anything about it because … people are going to pay a price, and is it worth it to them? To follow someone like him, especially? You know, it's just insanity,” he said.

De Niro also had a message for Trump supporters, saying he hopes they will understand that Harris “has nothing to offer” and vote for her.

“Those who normally support Trump will find that they have a better path than him because he's not offering them anything,” he said. “We've seen in other countries and societies and other times in history that people think they can control someone like Trump. But with Trump as the boss, all of those people who thought they could control him will find a different outcome.”

Steve Buscemi ultimately criticized the former president for taking a “my way, or nothing” attitude.

“What worries me about another Trump administration is that he's a 'my way or nothing' type of guy. He says he only hires the best people, but in reality he fires most of the best people. And if he gets elected this time, he's going to surround himself with people who are 100% loyal to him and his ways, and we all know that he'll do anything, including inciting violence, to stay in power,” he said.

Actors Mark Ruffalo, Lorraine Bracco, Lisa Ann Walter and Marisa Tomei also appeared on the livestream.

The event came months after De Niro spoke outside the courtroom where former President Donald Trump's trial was taking place in Manhattan.
