CNN anchor Jake Tapper said Monday that the issue was that “overtly anti-Semitic” speakers were speaking during the network’s coverage of the Republican National Convention.
“I just want to point this out because this is an issue that Republicans are concerned about and they’re not taking it into account. Democrats have their own issues and Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA have been credibly accused by other conservatives of having a problem with anti-Semitism within the party,” Tapper said.
He continued, “Erick Erickson wrote in a post that Turning Point USA looks not only like a fraud, but like an anti-Semitic fraud. Ben Domenech, co-founder of The Federalist, wrote that if Charlie Kirk gets ahead of TPA, the right is going to have an anti-Semitism problem that will continue until the next election. It’s clear that a lot of issues with anti-Semitism on the left have exploded since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th. This is the second speaker tonight who has made overtly anti-Semitic statements. The first was the Lt. Governor of North Carolina. Oh, sorry, I forgot. Marjorie Taylor Greene, so three. This is a party politics issue. If the Democrats put up someone like this in August, we’ll have the same issue again. But this is an issue, and I think we have an obligation to call it out.”
Tapper added, “Again, I’m quoting conservatives because I’m sure the response will be, CNN is this or that, but it was Erick Erickson and Ben Domenech who accused Charlie Kirk of anti-Semitism. I’m just saying this is a problem. Again, Democrats have their own issues with this issue, but this is a right-wing issue.”
