It’s time for a “comeback” in the United States, Dr. Ben Carson told Breitbart News Washington bureau chief Matthew Boyle in an interview on Wednesday at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Carson said he believes former President Donald Trump recognizes the “great opportunity” before him if he wins the presidential election and Republicans keep the House and take the Senate.
“That’s what’s going to happen if you focus on the people and what affects them and stay out of the political arena. I think President Trump recognizes that this is a perfect opportunity to do what he wanted to do in the first place, which is to save this country,” he said, citing an interview decades ago in which Trump said he would only run for president if he believed the country was heading in the wrong direction.
“He was already more famous than anyone in the world. He was already a billionaire. There was no reason for him to do this other than he loved this country,” he said, and the two then discussed the Games and the fact that everyone there now had the same sense of purpose.
“It’s time for a revival,” Carson said.
“You know, we’ve had four revivals in our country. They usually come before or after a plague or a war. We’ve had both. Now it’s time for another revival,” he said of the revival.
“I think people are saying that the path we’ve been on is a downward spiral for the country, but is that where we really want to go, or do we want to reset?” he asked. “Things can get pretty dark before people see the light.”
