Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said after Thursday’s CNN debate that if Democrats were to remove Biden from their primary candidates, “it would be a great affront to American democracy.”
Vance, one of a handful of contenders being rumored to be Trump’s running mate, appeared on Newsmax from the spin room after the debate to ruminate on the possibility of replacing Biden as the party’s nominee after a shaky performance that left Democratic pundits and commentators furious across platforms.

“It’s fascinating that a party that has spent four years decrying Republicans as a threat to democracy is trying to remove Joe Biden from the ballot, because they’re essentially doing what’s been obvious to everyone for four years: Biden is clearly unfit for the office of the president,” Vance said.
Vance said he believes the Democratic Party is “bound by Joe Biden.”
“It would be a grave affront to American democracy to try to unseat him now after his terrible performance in the debates, having essentially given Democratic primary voters only one choice throughout the entire primary process. It can’t be done,” Vance added.
Vance predicted Americans will see the choices available on the ballot on Thursday.

“Do we want an energetic, compassionate person to be our next president, or do we want to give Joe Biden another four years?” he said. “I think that contrast was clear to the American people. So the choice is very clear: We are going to choose Donald Trump in November.”
Newsmax anchor Rob Schmidt agreed that it was a “great irony” for the party to remove Biden as its nominee.
“But it’s interesting that the delegates make the decision on the candidates. They take the decision away from the voters and all they talk about is democracy,” he said, eliciting an affirmative nod from the populist senator.
