The defending champions make their bow, having missed out on Qatar. Expectations? Relatively high, since in a tournament where coaches can have a big say, they have one of the very best and most innovative in Luciano Spalletti. He might even have been the pioneer of the bald look that is so popular with coaches these days. It’s only three years since Wembley and that penalties win over England though much has changed, not just the coach, with Roberto Mancini departing to take Saudi Arabian petrodollars. Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci are gone, as is Leonardo Spinazzola. And of the new breed, Destiny Udogie leads a spate of injuries in defence, the area where Italy are supposed to be strongest. No Marco Verrati, either. Sandro Tonali? Suspended. This is nothing like the same squad, but that’s where Spalletti comes in and the likes of Gianluca Scamacca, so ourstanding for Atalanta comes in. There’s also Gianluigi Donnarumma, Jorginnho, Nicola Barella and Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Albania are the outsiders’ outsiders, though will be well supported by a whole host of fans set to try and fill Dortmund’s Yellow Wall. If Armando Broja is the most familiar face, if not to Fulham fans, then it’s a hard-working team that Sylvinho – yes, that Sylvinho, has put together. Star man is Elseid Hysaj, who Italy will know all about after his many years of service for Lazio and Napoli before that, someone who will be familiar with Spalletti’s wiles, too.

National Anthem, from Wiki:

“Himni i Flamurit” is the national anthem of Albania, adopted in 1912. Its music is derived from the Romanian patriotic song “Pe-al nostru steag e scris Unire” composed by Ciprian Porumbescu. The lyrics, which are close to the original Romanian lyrics, were written by Albanian poet Asdreni.

Italian Song” (Italian: [il ˈkanto deʎʎ(i) itaˈljaːni];[1] (Translation: “The Italian Song”) Goffredo Mameli And to the music Michelle Novarro In 1847,[2] the current, national anthem of ItalyAmong Italians,Mameli’s Ino” (Italian: [ˈinno di maˈmɛːli]; translated “Mameri’s Hymn”), named after the author of the lyrics, or “Italian Brothers” (Italian: [fraˈtɛlli diˈtaːlja]; translated “Italian Brothers”), First wordsThis work, 4/4 Time signature and B flat major There are six keys section, and Refrain It is sung after each one. The sixth stanza, which is rarely performed, recalls the text of the first stanza.

So, the Italians seemed to be louder, but this song makes you want to scream. When the Albanians finished, they were booed. They were loud there.

The team advances to Dortmund And we hear from Albanian fans too. Germany also has a sizable Italian population. Pro tip: if you’ve ever had your fill of pigs’ trotters and sauerkraut, Italian food in Germany is the best.

Luca Bianchin talks about the new Italy.

The striker problem in particular seems to run in the Italian football genes, affecting the youth teams as well. Mancini won Euro 2020 with starting striker Ciro Immobile with just two goals, and Spalletti’s quest to acquire a centre-forward has been going on for several months. Could Gianluca Scamacca or Matteo Letegui be the successors to the strikers who have made their mark in the history of Italian football, such as Paolo Rossi, Toto Schillaci or Christian Vieri? preamble

The defending champions will be making their first appearance after missing the Qatar tournament. What are the expectations? Relatively high. It’s a tournament where the manager has a big say, and they have the best and most innovative manager in Luciano Spalletti. He may be the precursor to the shaved head style that has become so popular among managers recently. It’s only been three years since they beat England in a penalty shootout at Wembley, but a lot has changed, not just the manager. Roberto Mancini is gone, taking his Saudi Arabian petrodollars with him. Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci are gone, as is Leonardo Spinazzola. And the new generation of Destiny Udogie is struggling with injuries in what should be Italy’s strongest defense. Marco Verratti is also gone. Where is Sandro Tonali? Suspended. It’s not exactly the same team, but with the addition of players like Spalletti and Gianluca Scamacca, his performance at Atalanta shines. There’s also Gianluigi Donnarumma, Jorginho, Nicola Barella and Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Albania are outsiders among outsiders, but they will be supported by a large fanbase as they strive to fill the Yellow Wall at Dortmund. If Armando Broja is the most familiar face, if not to Fulham fans, then Sylvinho is the hard-working team that he has built. Their star player is Elseid Hisai, who has a long history in Italy with Lazio and Napoli and will be familiar with Spalletti’s schemes.

Kick-off is at 8pm UK time, 9pm Dortmund time. Please participate.
