Kelly Reilly Opens Up About “Yellowstone” Finale and Behind-the-Scenes Tensions

Kelly Reilly, known for her role as Beth Dutton on “Yellowstone,” recently shared her thoughts on the show’s tumultuous ending, which reportedly caused a significant divide between Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner. In an interview with The Times, Reilly reflected on the chaos surrounding the production, set to conclude in December 2024.

She mentioned that the atmosphere on set felt very charged, saying, “If we had just been drinking beer instead of recording, we could have shared more. But yeah, it was only supposed to last five years… It was a success… It was life…” Reilly seemed to be carefully choosing her words, indicating how challenging it was to navigate the situation.

Describing her experience, she felt caught up in the highly publicized feud between Sheridan and Costner. “I’ve never really talked about it, so I’m just choosing my words,” she admitted. “There was a lot going on behind the scenes that had nothing to do with me. I was just waiting, ‘When are you going to go back to work?’” Although she lamented the problematic ending, she acknowledged that the result was ultimately good.

The ongoing dispute was highlighted in a recent interview with Costner, who mentioned that they couldn’t see eye to eye. There had been speculation that he was focusing more on his other project, “Horizon,” but Costner blamed Paramount for their rigid scheduling that kept him from participating fully in “Yellowstone.”

Costner expressed frustration about how the series deviated from what was outlined in his original contract, even claiming that the full season he had anticipated was scrapped. This discord, alongside other legal matters, ultimately led to his exit from the production and a shift in its direction.

For Reilly, the best course was to ride out the situation and continue following her own path. When asked if she kept in touch with Costner, she said, “We have sent messages, but I mean, it’s Kevin Costner! We’re operating in completely different capacities.”
