Sydney Sweeney’s Political Alignment Surprises Few
Is anyone genuinely shocked that Sydney Sweeney identifies as a Republican? Personally, I’m not. Recently, the Guardian reported that Sweeney is officially registered with the Republican Party. It felt like an old revelation resurfacing, even though this information is widely accessible and not exactly breaking news.
Given Sweeney’s age, background, and family influences, it isn’t surprising that a high-profile actress would lean toward the Republican side. From the very beginning of her career, Sweeney didn’t shy away from her beliefs. She has always been a determined figure in Hollywood, where, notably, left-leaning narratives have gained traction—like the promotion of body positivity through the “plus size” model and campaigns featuring transgender influencers.
At 27, Sweeney represents the so-called Zoomer generation. One might expect young Americans to automatically align with liberal views, especially in the early 2020s. However, recent data from Pew Research suggests that Gen Z is evolving into a more conservative demographic than older generations. Just two years ago, a significant number identified as Republicans or leaned conservative; today, that number has risen significantly among both men and women in that age group.
Hollywood is often perceived as a bastion of liberal thought, yet it’s likely that a number of conservative figures exist within the industry. It’s perhaps inevitable that stars like Sweeney would start registering as Republicans, especially with half the nation supporting Donald Trump in recent elections.
Interestingly, Sweeney was raised in a small conservative town in Washington. She’s also shared experiences that illustrate her upbringing, like attending a family birthday party where a member sported a MAGA hat. In one interview, she reflected on the nerves she felt when auditioning for the HBO series “Euphoria,” discussing her small-town roots and family dynamics.
