LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) told reporters at the Republican Jewish Coalition's (RJC) annual leadership meeting that if Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) refuses to take a vote on a bill that would require proof of citizenship in order to vote in U.S. elections and results in a government shutdown, it will be his own fault.
Scott is See also The Protecting American Voter Eligibility Act, also known as the SAVE Act, would “require individuals to provide proof of United States citizenship in order to register to vote in federal elections.”
As Breitbart News reported, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) is considering attaching the SAVE Act to a stopgap spending package he must sign by September 30 to keep the federal government running.
Scott told Breitbart News that Johnson is moving the idea forward in the House of Representatives, saying, “I think he has the votes.”
Asked whether a government shutdown posed any risk to Republicans ahead of the presidential election, Scott suggested Democrats would suffer if Schumer allowed a government shutdown because of the foreign vote.
As Breitbart News points out, Scott's Democratic opponent in Florida's upcoming U.S. Senate election, Debbie Mucarsel Powell, has refused to take a position against illegal immigrants voting in American elections.
“She's a socialist,” Scott told Breitbart News. “She doesn't talk about borders, she doesn't talk about Israel, she doesn't talk about anti-Semitism, she doesn't talk about anything.”
Scott, a former Florida governor, is seeking a second term.
Scott also spoke about the current situation in Israel, telling reporters he is confident Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is doing all he can to free the hostages, contrary to recent claims by President Joe Biden.
