It's time to abolish the filibuster.

The Republican Party has long branded itself as the champion of “conservatism.” However, in the last couple of decades, many mainstream Republicans have started to blend in with Democrats. This has led to a staggering $38 trillion in debt, with little accountability.

Thanks to former President Donald J. Trump, the Deep State Establishment faces a challenge. Trump has ushered in a new group of “America First” lawmakers—individuals committed to serving the American people, rather than the political insiders in Washington. He demonstrated that real political change requires action, not just strategic retreats.

President Trump is tasked with helping America recover from the setbacks caused by the Biden administration over the last four years. To deliver on the “America First” agenda that resonated with 77 million voters in November 2024, Republicans in Congress need to get their act together. Unlike the Democrats, who seem to disregard the rules to impose their agenda, we’ve often been too careful, too inclined to consider feelings, and too satisfied with merely performing conservatism.

If Republicans genuinely want to achieve meaningful wins for Americans, they need to start with abolishing the Senate filibuster. Yes, that’s probably a contentious point. But the reality is, if it weren’t for Democrats Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, the party would have dismantled it the last time they had control. It’s a harsh reality, but if Republicans don’t make a move, the moment radical Democrats regain the Senate, they will likely eliminate the filibuster themselves, swiftly enacting a progressive agenda that includes court packing, open borders, mandatory electric vehicles, and extreme abortion policies.

Initially, the filibuster was created in the 1800s to encourage extended discussions. This continued until the rules were modified in 1917 to require a two-thirds vote to conclude debate. By the 1970s, this had shifted to a 60-vote threshold, which remains today.

Over time, the filibuster has morphed from a tool for fostering dialogue into a means for a single senator to hold considerable sway. So it’s not surprising some of my colleagues wish to maintain this power. Recently, Democrats employed the filibuster to enforce a government shutdown that lasted over 40 days, which impacted military, veterans, law enforcement, and air traffic controllers. The animosity toward President Trump is palpable; Democrats would rather jeopardize our military than see him succeed.

Once that tool is gone, we need to focus on restoring election integrity. This means enforcing voter identification and abolishing universal mail-in voting. A significant number of Americans believe the 2020 election involved fraud, and we cannot let that happen again. With Republicans holding power in the House, Senate, and the White House, we should be diligently enhancing our election systems for the midterms in 2026 and the presidential election in 2028.

Another hurdle for the “America First” agenda is the presence of activist judges who seem inclined to obstruct the Trump administration. These appointed judges shouldn’t be able to override the mandate given by the 77 million who voted for Trump. Repeatedly, when he attempts to keep his promises, Democratic judges intervene to block him.

If Republicans wish to maintain a Supreme Court that honors the Constitution, the filibuster must end. If we don’t act, Democrats have already indicated what they plan to do upon regaining control—infuse the courts with individuals who disregard the Constitution. James Carville, often considered a mainstream Democrat, has notably suggested that this is part of the Democratic Party’s strategy.

The recent tragic shooting of two National Guard soldiers by an Afghan terrorist in Washington highlights the pressing need to restrict entry from the Middle East and North Africa. Observing Europe serves as a cautionary tale of unchecked immigration from majority-Muslim countries, leading to regions governed by Sharia law. If you think something similar couldn’t occur in the U.S., you might not be paying close enough attention. Millions of Muslim immigrants have settled here, some of whom exploit social services while vocalizing anti-American sentiments. The idea of America as a refuge for all has faded—it’s time to deport Islamists allowed in under the Biden administration. If we don’t act promptly, we could be facing a “United American Caliphate.”

During the last election, Democrats mocked Project 2025, but I believe the conservatives behind it were onto something significant. Trump made explicit promises during his campaign, and the American public decisively elected him. They also granted Republicans control of the House and Senate to assist in implementing his policies. There’s no justification for Democrats to hinder the president’s fulfillment of his commitments.

Time is running out for Republicans to choose between advancing for victory or surrendering to radical Democrats. It’s imperative we make the decisive play. That play? Ending the filibuster.
