It's time to recognize Charlie's and Iryna's murders for what they truly are: EVIL

Reflections on Recent Tragedies

The shocking murder of Ukrainian refugee Irina Zaltzka and the tragic incident at Announcement Catholic School that resulted in the deaths of two children have left us reeling. The sudden news of Charlie Kirk’s passing felt like a tidal wave crashing down, amplifying our grief.

We’re not just grieving; there’s a deep well of anger driving us toward justice.

As we navigate the complexities of achieving justice—be it through criminal penalties or policy changes—one critical aspect looms large.

Rick Burgess, host of “Strange Encounters,” reminds us, “We can’t address mental health issues solely through secular means.” It underscores a vital point: the heart of these violent incidents often lies in deeper, spiritual struggles.

This doesn’t diminish the importance of secular justice. Addressing the actions of perpetrators, enhancing safety measures at public events, and curbing online extremism are all necessary. Yet, these steps alone won’t eradicate the underlying malevolent forces behind such acts.

So, what might spiritual resistance look like for Christians grappling with the pervasive evils in society?

First, it’s crucial to distinguish between demon possession and mental illness. Rick articulates, “The brain is a part of our physical body, and it can get sick just like our other organs.” However, our culture often blurs the lines, sometimes labeling acts of violence as mental health issues rather than addressing the spiritual decay involved.

Take, for example, Dacarlos Brown Jr., charged with Irina Zarutska’s murder. Rick asserts that he “owns the demon.” Similarly, Tyler Robinson, linked to Charlie Kirk’s situation, and Robin Westman, who tragically shot children at the school, fall into a troubling category that involves diabolical influences rather than merely mental health or radical political beliefs.

Rick explains that the adversary gravitates toward areas steeped in sin, fostering a culture that diminishes the sanctity of life. We’re surrounded by influences—whether violent video games, discussions around abortion, or the trans movement—that seem to disregard the inherent worth of human existence.

These heinous acts, cloaked in misleading narratives, are like invitations for darkness to infiltrate our lives. The toll they take on innocent lives, like those of Charlie Kirk, Irina Zaltzka, and the children, serves as a grim reminder.

Rick cautions, “The darkness will only grow until we stop providing these invitations.”

It’s a stark call to action for us all.

However, tackling the societal shift towards this culture of death isn’t an easy, spontaneous remedy. Christians ought not to remain passive in this storm, holding tightly to the gospel’s illuminating truths.

“We must become more active, shedding our indifference. The church must rise as a beacon of hope,” Rick urges.

He stresses the need for a return to recognizing God’s holiness, suggesting discipleship as a pathway to live out Jesus’s teachings with sincerity and diversity in our approach.

Ultimately, Rick argues, “Change is impossible without the church bringing light into the shadows.”
