George Clooney Responds to Trump’s Comments

French actor George Clooney has reacted to President Donald Trump’s biting remarks about him, urging Americans to vote the Republican Party out in the upcoming midterm elections in 2026.

In an interview with Variety released on Monday, Clooney addressed Trump’s comments, which included mockery of his films and pointed out that Clooney is now a French citizen. The president seemed to take pleasure in this situation.

On New Year’s Eve, Trump shared what he called “good news” on his Truth Social account, criticizing Clooney and his wife Amal, stating they are “two of the worst political prophets of all time.”

“Good news! George and Amal Clooney, the worst political prophets of all time, are now officially French citizens. France is facing a major crime issue due to its poor handling of immigration, just like when Sleepy Joe Biden was in charge,” Trump commented.

Trump also reflected on a past debate where Clooney apparently shifted his support to a different candidate, stating this could lead to difficulty for Democrats in the future.

“Clooney received more attention for his political commentary than from a series of fairly mediocre films. He wasn’t exactly a star—just an ordinary guy often bemoaning political norms. Let’s Make America Great Again!” Trump added.

In defense, Clooney expressed optimism that the Democrats would gain control of both the House and Senate in the next elections. “I completely agree with the current president,” he stated. “We must make America great again, starting in November,” he reportedly mentioned.

Interestingly, while Trump critiques Clooney’s film success, it is true that Clooney’s box office hits have been somewhat limited. Despite many films, only a few have achieved significant box office success. Even his Oscar-nominated works haven’t grossed over $100 million, which is, well, something to think about.

In his conversation with Variety, Clooney refuted several inaccurate claims about Trump’s presidency, contesting that the U.S. economy is struggling and that costs have soared during the Biden years.

“Put simply, the economy is stupid,” Clooney stated. “It’s indeed more expensive now than when Joe Biden left office. Those in power often overreach. Cruelty, like separating children from their parents, might be popular with some, but I don’t think it resonates well with most Americans.”

Clooney may overlook that for many citizens who aren’t living in high-end homes in France, everyday expenses are, in many cases, decreasing. Today, gas prices are about half what they were during Biden’s presidency, and food and travel have become cheaper as well. Wages are climbing, hiring is up, and inflation is reportedly lower compared to those Biden administration years. Additionally, the growth rate has surged to 4.3%, significantly higher than Biden’s troubled 2.3% growth rate in 2024. This all unfolded after Trump began his second term.

Clooney also dismissed any notion of “Hollywoodism,” suggesting that Trump’s popularity is low and unlikely to improve. However, this doesn’t align with some surveys showing Trump’s approval ratings have remained steady or even improved at times.
