Ivanka Trump Shares Emotional Reflections on Family and Loss
During a rare podcast appearance on The Diary of a CEO, Ivanka Trump became emotional as she opened up about her mother’s passing and other personal challenges. She described her late mother, Ivana Trump, as an “extraordinary person” who greatly influenced her values and perspective on life.
“My mother taught me a lot about being intentional with my actions,” Ivanka noted, visibly affected as she recalled her mother’s sudden death in 2022. It was apparent how this loss transformed her and her family’s life. “When you lose a parent, you deal with it differently,” she added.
Ivanka expressed that her family keeps Ivana’s memory alive through stories and shared experiences. She also spoke about her grandmother, who played a significant role in her upbringing and now resides with them in Florida. Describing her grandmother as “incredibly nurturing,” she mentioned how it’s been a “blessing” to have her with them. At one point, she couldn’t hold back tears while discussing her grandmother’s declining health, momentarily pausing the interview to collect herself.
In addition to her mother’s death, Ivanka touched on her husband Jared Kushner’s battle with thyroid cancer. She revealed that he sought treatment during a particularly challenging time after leaving Washington, D.C. The family is navigating multiple issues concurrently, including her mother’s loss and Jared’s health struggles, all while adjusting to life outside of the government sphere.
I found it interesting that Ivanka chose not to return to Washington during her father’s second term, opting to focus on her children and family life instead. The discussion also veered into a traumatic experience related to her father. She recounted watching in real-time when President Donald Trump was shot during a campaign rally in July 2024, sharing how she was at the Trump National Golf Club with her children when the news broke. “I was scared and protective of my children,” she said, although she remained hopeful about her father’s survival.
“I knew it wasn’t his time,” Ivanka expressed. “I think we were really lucky that he was protected that day.” Her father later acknowledged forgiving the assailant, emphasizing that forgiveness, though difficult, is necessary.
In her reflections, Ivanka emphasized the importance of not taking life for granted, a lesson she’s learned through various trials. “In life, you can’t take things for granted,” she stated, summing up her thoughts on recent events.
