Ivanka Trump Reflects on Her Father’s Assassination Attempt

In a recent episode of the “Diary of a CEO” podcast, Ivanka Trump shared her emotional recollection of the moment her father was shot in Butler, Pennsylvania, and how it deeply affected her.

During the conversation with host Stephen Bartlett, she described being in Bedminster, New Jersey when she heard what she termed a “loud commotion.” She quickly turned on the television by the pool and witnessed the unfolding events almost in real time.

Her immediate instinct was to protect her children, describing the moment as “incredibly difficult.” While she was scared, she had a strong feeling that her father would be safe when he came off the stage with the Secret Service. “It was like it wasn’t his time,” she expressed, feeling a mix of terror and hope. Thankfully, her fears did not come true that day.

Later that evening, she met her father when he returned home from the hospital. Reflecting on the day’s events, she realized how easily life can be taken for granted.

She also touched on personal losses around the same time, including the death of her mother, Ivana, and her husband Jared Kushner’s cancer scare. Each of these experiences underscored for her the importance of cherishing life. “All of these challenges remind us how finite and precious every moment of this life is,” she noted, emphasizing the need to hold onto love and connection.

Bartlett pointed out that many people might struggle to relate to such a traumatic experience, particularly the notion of someone wishing harm upon a loved one. “Why doesn’t that make you negative towards the world?” he asked. Ivanka responded, “Because I won’t let that happen,” indicating a determination to maintain her perspective amid such hardships.

Addressing the shooter, she acknowledged the difficulty of forgiveness in such a painful context, yet she found solace in her father’s survival. “It was a blessing that my dad was alive,” she said. “You have a choice in life; it’s just how you react.” Despite the replaying of the moment on the news being “not easy” for her, she chose to focus on the miracle of her father’s survival, which she regarded as a profound blessing.
