Lawyer Alan Dershowitz Switches Support to Republicans
On a recent episode of “talkline with Zev Brenner,” notable attorney Alan Dershowitz criticized the Democratic Party, declaring his intent to support Republicans in the upcoming 2026 elections. This marks a shift for Dershowitz, who has previously identified as a Democrat.
Recent polls from Washington Post/Ipsos reveal Republicans leading Democrats by 7% on economic issues, 13% on immigration, and 22% on crime. Dershowitz stated on the program that the Democratic Party has lost sight of important values, criticizing figures like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, and New York State Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
During the interview, Dershowitz said, “I’m going to support Republicans in midterm elections, and I hope they keep both the House and Senate. The last thing I want is for Chuck Schumer or Liz Warren to hold power.” He elaborated, expressing discontent with the party’s distance from American, Israeli, and basic decency values, remarking, “While I’m not a Republican, I’m certainly anti-Democrat.” His comments included a firm stance against Democratic candidate Zoran Mamdani.
Harry Enten, CNN’s main data analyst, commented on September 22 during “CNN News Central” that the Republican Party is currently positioned favorably compared to past elections, suggesting they are seen as more trustworthy, particularly regarding economic issues.
Dershowitz initially signaled his departure from the Democratic Party in August 2024 due to concerns about anti-Israel sentiment among party members, particularly at the Democratic National Convention. He later confirmed his intentions to actively support efforts against Democrats in the 2026 elections, including financial backing for opposing candidates.
