Minnesota Lt. Gov. Responds to Border Czar

During a recent episode of CNN’s “Laura Coates Live,” Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan (D), who is running for the Minnesota Senate, addressed comments made by Border Czar Tom Homan. Homan suggested that the situation in Minnesota might improve if residents refrain from blocking roads and threatening ICE officers. Flanagan stated, “I believe the federal government is failing us, yet I’ve witnessed the best of Minnesotans. We will continue to support one another through nonviolent resistance and peaceful protests. Taking care of each other is who we are—it’s our responsibility.”

Host Laura Coates shared a video of Homan’s remarks, in which he emphasized the need for people to stop creating illegal barricades and trying to intimidate ICE officials, urging a reduction in aggressive rhetoric.

Coates inquired whether the actions of Minnesota residents might affect ICE’s approach. Flanagan responded, “I’ve seen Minnesotans really stepping up to support their neighbors. Parents gather outside daycare centers and schools; people are delivering food to those confined at home for two months. This support is significant. I’ve seen over 50,000 Minnesotans protest in 15 degrees, demanding justice, especially after the tragic deaths of individuals like Renee Goode and Alex Preti, an ICU nurse with the VA. I maintain that while the federal government is at its worst, Minnesotans are at their best. Our commitment to nonviolent protest and mutual support reflects our true nature and duty.”
